HOLIDAY

My boss had to go to Sydney last Sunday for something, and he had to close the salon for 4 days. This worked for me, seeing as it's been about a year since I've had a real holiday. So I decided to make the most of it. I took my mother and we went off to 'The Entrance', for a real 4 day holiday!

It was fantastic! ! ! I got to sit in the sand, swim in the ocean, look at the tiny God-made aquariums, stare at the amazing view, feel the cool breeze on my face, worry about blue-bottles, and sleep in for 4 days!!! I really really needed it, and I think Mum did as well! I'm so happy we got to go away together!

A couple of funny things happened while I was away.

1. I was in the cabin we were staying in, just doing the dishes when a boy of about 13 walks up our veranda and looks in the door. He doesn't wait for an invite but opens the doors and walks straight in! I was a bit surprised, but I noticed he was down syndrome. He came walking straight towards me with a flower in his outstretched hand and said..." Mahakey! I have a flower for you, Mahakey!!!"

I acted happy and took the flower and offered my gratitude. He then stretched out his arms as wide as he could. I presumed this to mean, 'hug'. It did. So I gave him a pat on the back/half hug thing. I was just thinking how strange this all was until he then patted his cheek. I presumed this to mean, 'kiss'. It did, but I didn't. "No thank you, thanks for the flower but you need to leave now. Bye." I spun him around and walked him out the door..and then proceeded to lock it cause I was a little weirded out.

As he walked down the steps I noticed a little friend of his peeping through my veranda. He said, "Was that Mahakey!", really loudly. My flower,hugging/kissing buddy then proceeded to tell him, "Yup, that was Mahakey!" and then the two of them walked off together. Weird? Yes. A dream? Mmm...Possibly, but I had a flower to prove it.

2. Two men came down to the beach . One middle-age. The other older. Father and Son, I thought. Anyway, Son, popped his toe in the water and was saying how it was cold, but then dived straight in anyway. Father, threw his head back, popped his chest right out, and made his hands into fists and then....howled! Really loud, and for quite a while. A little like a dog. Mum and I were thinking that maybe he was a werewolf....but yeah, not likely. Once he was finished, howling, he looked around and saw me watching him. He looked me in the eye and gave me the strangest chuckle I've ever heard and then dived straight in to the water after his son. Werewolf? Maybe.

So, besides the craziness, Mum and I had a great time and I would very much like to go back to The Entrance again sometime soon.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie...!

Australia Day is tomorrow!

I love Australia Day. The patriotism, and the fact that everyone is so happy that we live in such a great country.

Tomorrow is also going to be a scorcher! I heard it was something like 42 degrees! Which might just cancel my plans I had for tomorrow, maybe.

My friend Emily and I have a little tradition..[ which was only started last year ], we like to get dressed up in Australian paraphernalia and make signs that say "HONK! If you love Australia!!" and parade down town with these signs and count how many HONKS we get.

Well, last year we got more than 100 HONKS in the first hour. Then we stopped counting.

It was fun and random and I think people just loved it, and I hope we get to do something similar tomorrow but we'll have to see just how hot it gets.

How do you spend Australia Day? Do you spend it by getting smashed and sunburnt [which I'll eventually get sick of hearing about on Facebook within the next few days]..? Or do you spend it spreading the love to your fellow Aussies...?

Seriously,

HONK!!! ....if You love Australia!

Whos a P-plater? I am, pick me!!!

I got my license!!! I am finally a P-plater!!! It took me three goes at the test, but I finally passed! Believe me those testing officers are mean...

So now I've been driving to work by myself this week and I'm loving the freedom that comes with owning a car and finally having the license to drive it!

My nan was the one who gave me the best advice about driving,"...just remember that everyone else out there is an idiot."

Thanks Nanny! I will definitely remember that! :D

So everybody, you've been warned! Stay off the roads....:D

3 months

Today is the end of my probationary period as an apprentice hairdresser! I'm not actually at work today seeing as it is a public holiday!!! But I have finished my three months all the same. Pretty much it means I can't drop out very easily now...and I start getting government bonuses!!!

So 3 months down....33 months to go! And then probably many years of washing, sweeping, cutting, colouring, sore feet, aching back, cramped hands and yucky fingernails! Ahh the joys!

'My dear, I don't give a damn.'

'Do you mean to say you don't think I'm a great lady, too?'
'I think we agreed on the occasion of our first meeting that you were no lady at all.'
'Oh, if you are going to be hateful and rude enough to bring that up again! How can you hold that bit of childish temper against me? That was so long ago and I've grown up since then and I'd forget all about it if you weren't always harping and hinting about it.'

'I don't think it was childish temper and I don't believe you've changed. You are just as capable now as then of throwing vases if you don't get your own way. But you usually get your way now. And so there's no necessity for broken bric-a-brac.'
"Oh, you are-----I wish I was a man! I'd call you out and----'
'And get killed for your pains. I can drill a dime at fifty yards. Better stick to your own weapons-----dimples ,vases, and the like.'
'You are just a rascal.'
'Do you expect me to fly into a rage at that? I'm sorry to disappoint you. You can't make me mad by calling me names that are true. Certainly I'm a rascal, and why not? It's a free country and a man may be a rascal if he chooses. It's only hypocrites like you, my dear lady, just as black at heart but trying to hide it, who become enraged when called by their right names.'

This is a small excerpt from the classic 'Gone with the Wind', and one of the many arguments that Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara have. I'm reading this book for the second time but it is slow going as I don't get much time to read. It is one of my favorites and it keeps my chuckling to myself on every page by hilarious fights that these two famous characters have, every time they encounter each other.
I love books that make you think about a quote and then go..."that is so true." This happens to me all the time. You wouldn't think this could be found in a book like 'Gone with the Wind' but you might be surprised.
Anyway if you haven't read this classic I suggest you don't wait any longer!! You'll probably have to push your way through the first few chapters but it is a very entertaining read!

Working 9 to 5

Well, I started my new job last monday and have successfully made it through two weeks!! It's going very well and I'm slowly finding myself more comfortable there. Some things I like, and some things I don't. When I'm not learning anything new I find that the days kinda blend into one and become very much the same, so I look forward to the days I come home having accomplished something.
Today, I gave the other girl that works there, Jenny, a special hair treatment and a blowwave. I hadn't done a blowdry before so I learnt something new!
I'm really looking forward to going to TAFE. I know some of it will be hard and scary, but I'm hoping to meet new people and learn lots and lots.

Sorry I written forever, I have been working and only have Sunday and Tuesday off at the moment.

Grade 12 and Apprenticeships

I am so excited!

I just officially finished grade 12. This means no more school. Ever.

I don't remember the last time I was this happy. It's like a huge weight has been taken off my shoulders that I've been carrying around for the last...12 years.

In other news, I recently acquired a hairdressing apprenticeship! I am very happy about that as well. She is a really lovely, christian lady named Elle, and she owns a beautiful salon. I don't think she is just your ordinary hairdresser either, as she does the hair for models on catwalks in Sydney and other big hair shows. Elle says I'll be able to come along as her assistant sometimes. How great is that!!

I think my apprenticeship was a big God thing! He just planned it so perfectly and it all fell into place and with a Christian lady at that!

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know how excited I am!

Don't worry

Early last week, it occurred to me that I don't actually live in the present. I feel like I live in the future. Sometimes it seems that every minute of my day is spent worrying about the next minute of my day. I'm missing the here and the now because I'm too busy being anxious about the future. It doesn't ever stop either, you could worry your entire life away without enjoying/experiencing it. This isn't a fun way to be.

Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:34
Yesterday is the past, tomorrow is the future; but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.

Golden Gaytime from Hell

So my friends 1 and 2, and I went out tonight, late night shopping. First we got maccas and then we ate Allen's Snakes.
Lots.
We had snake-aches.
Then we decided to go and get these new drinks from KFC. They are golden gaytimes, but not your average ice-cream, these are gaytimes in a cup with a straw.
So we were waiting in the drive through after an embarrassing episode of handing the little man in the square window $12 in 2o cent pieces and were waiting patiently for our drinks. Little did we know the Drama that would soon follow....Driving slowly up to the window where our drinks would magically appear from a young girl who definately had an evil glint in her eyes, we rolled the window down and smiled expectantly.
Now whether is was the fault of the stubby armed girl with the evil glint, or the stupidly placed garden between the car and tiny square window which made the distance way to long, or maybe even my anonymous friend 1's fault, we shall never know, but as our beloved drinks were thrown (not passed) down to us from the not-so-magic window, somehow, one unfortunate drink, ended up in anonymous friend 1's lap.
And on her jacket.
And in her car.
And on me.
And on her hand brake.
And on the steering wheel.
And on the carpet.
Suddenly these drinks did not look quite so appetising. The lumpy bits no longer looked like crunchy bits of chocolate and biscuit.
....still the hilariousness could not be stopped. My insides still hurt from how hard we laughed. We parked the car in the KFC car park...if you can call it a park and then anonymous friend number 2 was waiting in line to ask for napkins.
Now we don't know who to blame for this series of unfortunate events, but I still think it was the stubby arms and the evil glint.

$32.00

I spent a whole thirty-two bucks at the show yesterday. I agree with mum that they are 'money-wasters'. How I wish I fit under the child category, I could have got in for five bucks...instead, it cost twelve.

I just lost my train of thought, and I'm pretty sure that a woman with crazy, blond hair and what appeared to be a Santa-Hat on just walked past the side window...

But its probably the fairy floss talking.

Anyway, yes the show. Condo show. The place to be. It was pretty fun. I went on a ride, screamed my heart out [not out of terror of the ride mind you, but out of the thoughts running through my head about how well those things are put together] and then when I got off the ride I couldn't speak. And my throat really hurt. Stupid ride.

Ah gotta love the show. Oh and I found two bucks!

Future

The best thing about the future is that it only comes one day at a time.

I know not what the future holds, but I know who holds the future.

Fear not for the future, weep not for the past.

Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.

The longer you wait for the future, the shorter it will be.

Doomsday

The end of the world is near. Or maybe just Condo's world...
I was at work today at the cafe and I was clearing the tables from outside when the strangest character of a man walked past with a determined look on his face. He was wearing a floppy brimmed hat and daggy clothes. He was kinda short and old. This fellow walked several meters, than stopped, standing there for about a minute and looking around. Turning on his heel he walked back past me in the other direction and glanced at me.."this town is going down!" he said violently. I was alarmed.
What did he mean?
I was also slightly amused and I wanted to laugh outright.
Instead I just looked very serious and nodded as if I agreed with him.
Strange character.

Catherine the Great

As I'm sure you'll come to realise, I love History. I wonder if you can get that on a T-shirt...Anyway, today I was reading about Catherine the Great from Russia. I think she was a really brave woman. She went to Russia to marry this guy named Peter who was next in line to the Throne, but he turned crazy on her. First he was very handsome and kind[ but very mean to his servants], and then he caught the smallpox during his and Catherine's engagement and his face became hideous and scarred and disgusting. She married him anyway because she was to afraid to say no. He was rude and ignored his wife. She gave birth to his son and didn't even get to see the baby for 6 weeks because the Empress, Peter's mother, whisked the baby away and wanted to raise him herself. The Empress soon died and Peter went even more off his rocker and no one liked him so Catherine plotted to take over the throne. All this while she was pregnant with his second child. Crazy woman.
Anyway in the end Catherine ruled for thirty years. She wasn't the best ruler, and tried to hide from the fact that her peasants were starving but a lot of her subjects loved her.
There is a bit of a history lesson for you.

If dolls could talk

Today I packed two boxes. For those of you who don't know...we are moving again. Back to Dubbo. Hopefully this time to stay. Anyway, as I was packing up a box of trinkets, I looked at the small porcelain doll in my hand. I hadn't really 'seen' her sitting on my shelf all these years, but for some reason I remember packing her all the times we've moved. Which is a lot. I tried to recollect how many times I had packed her up in paper and in a cardboard box, but I couldn't remember. She could probably tell me.
